Updated October 2026 by the Tour Guide BD team in Sylhet.
The best time to visit Bangladesh is from November to February, when the weather is cool, dry and sunny, and every major destination is open, from the Sundarbans to Cox’s Bazar. March is still pleasant but warming up. April and May are hot and humid, and the monsoon (roughly June to October) brings heavy rain but also the greenest landscapes of the year and the best time for Ratargul swamp forest.
Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate, so the season you choose shapes your whole trip. Below, our local guides explain each season, what to expect month by month, the best time for each region and the festivals worth planning around.
Bangladesh seasons at a glance
| Season | Months | Weather | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|

Winter (November to February): the best time to visit Bangladesh
Winter is peak travel season, and for good reason. Skies are clear, humidity drops and temperatures are comfortable for walking around Old Dhaka or exploring forests and villages. Mornings can be cool, especially in the north in December and January, when fog sometimes delays early trains and flights.
- The Sundarbans are at their best: calm water, dry trails and good chances of spotting deer, crocodiles and birds. See our Sundarbans boat expedition.
- Cox’s Bazar has calm seas and sunny beach days. See our Cox’s Bazar beach tour.
- Old Dhaka is far more comfortable to explore on foot or by rickshaw. See our Old Dhaka heritage day tour.
- Saint Martin’s Island is only open to tourists in this season under current rules, from November to January, with day trips only in November.
Tip: this is also the busiest season for hotels and boat trips, so book a few weeks ahead, especially for late December and the New Year.
Spring and summer (March to May): hot, quieter and good value
March is still a lovely time to travel, with warm, mostly dry days. By April and May the heat and humidity build, with daytime temperatures often in the mid-30s °C. This is also the season of sudden late-afternoon thunderstorms called kalbaishakhi, which cool the air but can disrupt boat trips.
- Fewer tourists and better availability.
- Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year on 14 April, is one of the most colorful days of the year, with music, fairs and processions.
- Mango season begins in May, especially around Rajshahi.
- Plan outdoor sightseeing for early morning and evening, and rest in the hottest part of the day.
Monsoon (June to October): green, dramatic and wet
The monsoon transforms Bangladesh. Rivers swell, rice fields turn bright green and waterfalls come alive. It rains heavily, often in strong bursts rather than all day, and some roads and boat routes can be disrupted. If you do not mind getting wet, it can be the most beautiful time to visit.
- Ratargul swamp forest near Sylhet is flooded and best explored by boat from about June to October.
- The tea gardens of Sylhet and Srimangal are at their greenest. See our Sylhet & Srimangal tea country tour.
- Floating markets in the Barisal region are busiest in the late monsoon.
- Waterfalls such as Madhabkunda are at full flow.
Things to know: cyclones can affect the coast, mainly in April to May and October to November, and the sea at Cox’s Bazar can be rough during the monsoon. Bring light rain gear, and allow flexibility in your plans. Our Bangladesh packing list covers what to bring.
